I’m launching something new inside “Creating What’’s Next.”

It’s called the 3x5 Napkin Series.

Thank you to Austin Kleon for being my muse with his “Typewriter Interviews.” (Check them out, if you aren’t familiar)

Instead of explaining what it will be, I thought I’d model it for you.

While this is more informational than the Series will be itself, you’ll get the aesthetic, if nothing else.

Below is the text version of my questions and answers:

1. Why this series?

I love interesting conversations with interesting people. For me, it’s as much about the things I learn about them as it is what I end up learning about myself.

2. What prompted you to create it?

I like creating new things. That’s one of the main ideas behind this space - “Creating What’s Next.” It’s a constant process. A place to explore, learn and find that new edge for growth. Plus, it just felt like something I’d enjoy. That last part is the biggest driver.

3. How is it different from the other essays on “Creating What’s Next?”

Different mediums. Less my ideas and more discovering about my interviewees. Outside of this “interview,” the Series will focus on someone else. My input is the intro and the questions. They serve the meal.

4. Why the napkin? The 3x5 cards?

I had a podcast years ago with a napkin as the logo. It’s always stuck with me. And, I love to sketch. As for the 3x5, I still use them to this day to capture ideas and notes (something stuck from elementary school :)). Seemed like a fun way to come at this.

5. How are you selecting the interviewees?

Some are people I’ve known for years. Others I’ve met more recently. In either case, I kinda follow my gut after a chat and invite them in for the Series.

6. What’s the cadence?

I’m aiming for 2-3 times a month. It’s more driven by having something worth sharing than anything else.

7. Anything else readers need to know?

Your feedback on what’s landing and where you want to go deeper is critical. It shapes the Series. Likes are great, but comments and restacks tell me more about where you’re truly finding value. That’s where my attention goes because it tells me what’s landing (and why).
